Needed a lifejacket and AIS solution for upcoming races. I spoke to TeamO who have good advice and explained which jacket would suit my sailing activity the best. The benefits of the backtow are obvious. Quick delivery was also arranged so jacket and beacon arrived, already plumbed in and good to go.
I looked at a lot of different life vest and found these to be the most comfortable life jackets and with the option of being towed correctly was on obvious choice. Been very happy with the life jackets.
Fits very well, I was able to make all the adjustments necessary to fit me. The instructions are good so read them. I have not deployed the jacket yet. I also have worked out how to attach the MOB1. The tether works as expected and attaches to the jack lines with the clips. All in all, I am very pleased and recommend buying this life jacket.
I purchased this life jacket in January and, although I have (fortunately) not had the opportunity to use it in a real emergency, I have used it several times. The materials and workmanship are excellent and the jacket is very comfortable to wear, despite being an offshore jacket, which is bulkier than many other “coastal” items (the jacket has a light, a built-in hood and can easily accommodate a PLB). For a more in-depth analysis, look for the Yachting Monthly review published in 2022.
There are only two “issues”: the backtow system does not appear to be all that easy to be repacked if the jacket has been activated and the system deployed. The manual is not very clear on this and the videos on the TemO website refer to older and different versions. I hope TeamO will address this by publishing an updated video for the current system. Otherwise, it would probably be a wise idea to open the jacket and record a video showing how the system is packed for future reference.
The second issue is due to Brexit: if, like me, you plan to buy this life jacket from abroad, be prepared to pay very high customs duties. It's not TeamO's fault, clearly (they seem to try to keep prices low), but if you end up paying 30% more than the listed price, other products might become more interesting. Of course, you'll have to give up the backtow system as TeamO is the only manufacturere to offer a similar solution.
I had a chance to use my new vest this October on 14 days offshore sail. It fits very well no problem to wear it many hours and the materials seems good and durable. Considering my heigh almost 2m i would appreciate even longer straps between legs (always easy to shorten than other way). I haven't fall over yet but once it happens, I will write the second part of review.
I agave taken this jacket and repacked it with accesories. It is comfortable to wear and easy to understand how to rearm and repack with a clever method of turning you around in the water. I've used it for one 750 mile journey and found it stood up well
Hi all. I first saw the life jackets on u tube a video by sailing uma I was impressed with what I seen so I got 2 limited addition thay are N170 black with pink piping this year. A couple of years later I bought 2 more gray/orange N170 for any crew members . The 5th one? I treated my self and got a blue/yellow piping N270 . I think it's important to have the best you can afford. I have look at other life jackets and what other people are using and they just don't seem adequate enough for me at the end of the day you as captain are responsible for your crew and what price do you put on life. I know I've got the best I can afford and giveing them the best chance of survival. So now I can say I've done my best to get the best I could afford and now I have 5 temo life jackets. PS you need to see the utube video on the life jackets I loved the part with the cup of tea.
I have purchased the lifejacket for a specific trip off-shore in the pacific, it has arrived in a short time. I must say I am very happy with the overall product, even in warm climates was very comfortable to wear and the materials seem very nice and sturdy.
I can only point out 2 elements that got me to rate it "only" 4 and not 5:
1. The light that comes inside the lifejacket was not exactly new. Manufactured in June 2021 with only 1/3 life left, expiry date June 2026.
2. I have purchased the lifejacket and had it shipped to Italy. As it arrived I had to pay about 25% of taxes on top for the import. I know this does not depend on TeamO but it would be nice to have mentioned on the site the possible additional costs related to importation in EU.
This life jacket is so light you barely know you even have it on. It is perfect for the dinghy, paddle boards and kayaks with the manual inflation.
Glad to have come across the Micro 170N. With its minimal, light and comfortable fit, I almost forgot wearing it. Bought two for my wife and myself. Perfect choice for our inshore pleasure motorboating use. Exceptional accommodating personal customer service when I had some questions regarding trade and shipping to my country Norway. I strongly recommend the TeamO and their Micro 170N! :)
This life jacket is so light and noninvasive that I forget that I’m wearing it. I highly recommend it!
We received our 170N life vests within two weeks of placing our order. We live in Texas and expected shipping from the UK to take longer. The vests are comfortable to were while on deck. My wife and I are leaving Galveston in April for our years long cruising life and I purchased these life vests because we are expecting to be on watch alone at various intervals. We both clip in our tethers and use jack lines when necessary to go forward while underway.. Neither of us has ever fallen overboard and this is our greatest fear while underway. This vest appears to provide the best possibility for survival if one of us fall overboard while alone on deck.
Great industry leading product, speaks for itself!
Amazing service from the Teamo guys too. Quick responses to email queries, great communication, perfect customer service. Very happy customer. Would highly recommend! Thanks guys!
Hoping I never need to use it in anger but so far satisfied with the product.
Fits perfectly, feels lighter than previous version and just love the colour.. !
Initially I didn’t know who to direct my emails to .. but once I found a contact communication ran smoothly.
Now that I worn it for a little while now it’s a really good product! I’m quite happy with it. The only reason I can’t give it five stars is because the leg straps just aren’t beefy enough. I’d like something more substantial to hold on to me if I fall overboard.. These little teeny tiny thin straps will dig into your legs real quick… This is literally the only thing that’s not built to an industrial standard, everything about this lifevest is made for offshore cruising!
I just opened my new N170 and am incredibly impressed. The craftsmanship is truly superb.
I spent my entire career of 46yrs. either as a sailmaker or running my own canvas shop for 34 years. It really is a piece of art, hats off to the people who make these. I of course will recommend it as the one to buy.
I was hoping that I ordered it in time for the included tether. Close but no cigar.
Thank you all for working so hard to put out a great product
The whole buying experience was professional and smooth.
Product arrived promptly and very well packed.
Jacket itself appears a very well made, quality product. Clearly in a different league to some of the others I have here.
Neat, tight stow, with a well fitting cover. Supportive harness. Shaped yoke and straps make for a good, snug, yet comfortable fit.
Very comfortable to wear, male 1.8m & 85kg.
My vhf and PLB holsters fitted easily. Sizing adjusts easily to suit appropriate ppe.
I'd v probably give 5 stars once I've had some longer days afloat with it, but quite early days yet...
One of the best LJs I've used during. >40 year career in commercial marine industries.
V pleased, would buy again.
My main reason to buy this life jacket is the backtow which I hopefully will never have to use but looks like a really great feature.
The lifejacket is very comfortable and quite light. The collar sits really nice a bit away from the neck so there is no load directly at the neck as I experienced it with cheaper lifejackets. Fair winds!
Excellent quality in the materials used, reenforced stitching, and overall construction. I feel much safer knowing if I go overboard while single-handing that I will be towed on my back. Rather than drowned while being drug facing forward - as is the design flaw of all other PFFs - in my opinion. This back-tow design is a must for any serious sailor.
I now have 4 TeamO Lifejackets on board my boat. The jacket I wear recently developed a issue with one of the zip. TeamO handled the situation brilliantly - no quibbles, they just replaced the jacket. Outstanding customer service. Just back from an 18 day delivery trip and wore the jacket most of the time. It's super comfortable and I love the security of knowing it has the back-tow mechanism built in, so if I ever were to go overboard I could be dragged backwards in a safe position. Highly recommended - both product and company.
